Cutting 60 degree triangles with a regular rotary cutting ruler

We all love the Sidekick Ruler from Jaybird Quilts for it's simplicity. But if you don't have the ruler, you can still use 60 degree triangle patterns by adapting the cutting dimensions and technique.

When a pattern calls for triangles to be cut from a 4 1/2" strip using the Sidekick Ruler, they can be cut with a regular ruler using a 4 3/4" strip instead.

1. For this example, you will need a total of 8 strips of solid color fabric,
2 each of 4 colors. Cut each strip to 1 5/8" x 18".

2. Sew the strips together using a 1/4" seam. Sew your strips into 2 sets of 4,
from darkest to lightest, like shown here:

3. Trim each strip to 4 3/4" width.
4. Use the 60 degree line on your ruler as shown to cut 5 triangles from each strip.

***Be sure to cut both strips the same way, so that you have 6 triangles that match
and 4 that match but in the opposite color order***

Follow the rest of the steps from #6 to the end, found here.

Good luck and enjoy!
